haiyore nyaruko san reveiw

Genres:  comedy, romance, sci-fi

Themes:  aliens, parody

Objectionable content:  very significant – extreme amounts of both violence, blood and sexual innuendo/ecchi.

Cthulu has entered anime! Okay not cthulu itself but the cthulu mythos from lovecraft’s novels at least have.

Basically the old gods of the cthulu mythos in lovecrafts novels are actually aliens, some good, some bad. The good ones seem to work for the cthulu corporation to keep peace in the universe, so when some bad aliens come to earth with is the entertainment capital of the universe to steal its doujinshi and capture humans for their slave trade. The nyarlotepian nyarko comes in to save them, them being a boy named mahiro yasaka. Little does he know that the only reason she saved him really is she likes him and that by liking him his life is about to be turned inside out!

Honestly, this anime has a lot of excess. Excess violence and excess ecchi. The entire thing is basically storied around nyarko trying to get into mahiro’s pants, and many points that they pull do not make sense. The only thing it has for it, is decent comedy, and very descriptive fight scenes, not many of them either. Simply put I did not think much of it.

New anime spotlight

Simply put instead of a full anime I’ve watched the first episodes of a few of the new anime coming out presently. Most only have one or two episodes out so the storyline still has room to grow for most so I shall not be judging them with a number but with just my thought on them from seeing the first episode.

Genres: action, psychological, sci-fi

Themes: unknown( as in we don’t know yet)

Objectionable content:  intense violence and gore.

Okay so from the first look it seems that in the world there is an online game called btoom, in it people fight with sonar and bombs, that’s it. Sakamoto ryota is a college reject who lives with his mom and is the best player of btoom in japan who one day wakes up on a island with a pouch of bombs exactly like those in the game and then is attacked by another person who he ends up killing, violently.

Is it just me or does this sound like a combination of halo and bomber man? Honestly I’m not expecting too much from this anime personally as the plot thus far seems kind of dry to what it could be, and the action looks to be the only thing that’s good as the character interaction is very little.

Busou shinki

Genres: action, comedy, sci-fi, slice of life

Themes: living dolls, mecha

Objectionable content: light violence (so far)

Okay I seriously thought that the character in this were cheap knock off of infinite stratos when I first saw them honesty.

Basically in the world there are 15 cm, dolls called shinki who have personalities all their own who serve only their one master. These shinki can dawn armour to fight each other fpr multiple reasons.

The anime itself seems to be mostly following the high schools freshman rihito’s three shinki more than him in the anime and show the mischief and fun they get into. It is very comedic and does do a good job of explaining things when the action or story gets a little slow.

Girls und panzer

Genres: action, school, tanks, war

Objectionable content:  potential violence?

This anime ought to be paid for by the mmo world of tanks!

In a world where the art of combatting tanks is considered an art akin to flower arrangement there are schools that have it in their curriculum. Miho is a girl who has transferred schools to get away from her bad memories of this but as she transfers in they bring it back to this school and coerce her into it again.

We don’t see too much action in the first episode except for a foreshadow event at the start of the episode but this first episode does do a good job of setting up some background and character relations. I think this anime has the potential to be good or bad, though I must admit the animating for the tanks look s like they stole the sprites from world of tanks a bit as the tanks are all done.

Genres: comedy, romance, school

Themes: forbidden love, harem,

Objectionable content:  slight( well this is comedic incest)

Okay so why is it I’m getting a vibe similar to kisssxsis here? Oh wait that’s because they both have a major plot point of forbidden love to a sibling!!

Okay so Akito Himenokōji lives at his school dorms and his twin sister whom he has not seen for six years akiko has come to the same school and is going to be staying at the same dorms as him. Only thing is she’s a pervert who is intent on getting together with her brother, and the lengths and miscommunications between them are ridiculous indeed.

Honestly this one has a lot of potential as it’s a harem anime were akiko is fighting or her brothers love with three other girls but honestly it still just ends up being a forbidden love story, so if that’s your thing then here ya go

So that’s all I’ll be commenting on for now, but please do comment on what you think these anime shall become or whatever your thoughts on them may be!

Summer wars review

Genres: adventure, comedy, romance, action

Themes: computers, family, social networking,

Objectionable content: Mild- nothing dangerously worthy of note

On first thought the name summer wars sounds like a movie about water fights where in reality it is more similar to the .hack series or the matrix on some points. During the summer, math genius kenji koiso goes with his secret crush and the school biggest love natsuki to her home to pretend he is her boyfriend. During his stay he gets  a random text that is a jumble of numbers, he gets it wrong but many others get it right allowing a learning Hacking AI to take over the world’s biggest social control called oz which controls everything from street lights to emergency vehicles and space satellites. It then goes on a spree witch causes mass hysteria and global panic. This climaxes with it attempting to drop a satellite on a nuclear reactor witch Causes kill millions. To stop it, kenji, natsuki and her cousin who uses one of the most famous fighter avatars in oz known as king kazama to fight the AI known as love machine.

Other than the simple fact that love machine would make a absolutely wonderful .hack// villain this anime is freaking awesome, spending its time in both the virtual and real world to hold it together with actions happening in both. Honestly I don’t want to say anymore or I’m worried I’ll ruin its awesomeness but everyone should seriously watch this movie or its awesome ness of 11/10 (yes I’m serious ) is going to waste!

Genres: drama, fantasy, mystery

Themes: online gaming

Objectionable content: minor – fantasy violence

.Hack Quantum, the newest installment of the ridiculously large .hack series set in the newest version of the world, the World RX.

For those of you familiar with .hack this is pretty intruding, for those of you who are not ill make it simple. All of the dot hack games from .hack//Sign( the first one I’m told) to Quantum( the newest one) are set in the World witch is an online RPG Akin to Runescape or World of Warcraft I suppose. It uses advanced helmets or glasses in the later ones to allow people to “see” into the game world like virtual reality basically. And in almost every single one of them I’ve seen or heard about one of two things happens it seems.

1.)    The protagonists end up dealing with the Worlds Deity aura or some kind of virus trying to take out aura

2.)     Or  someone end up getting in a coma in the real world while being stuck in the game world\

in .Hack//sign both of these happen, in quantum however  someone gets stuck in a coma and there is no meeting with aura. Basically three good friends in school who love to play the world meet a character who plays as a short cat with a stick and one gets stuck in the world and they have to get her out, before she gets corrupted by the virus witch seems to have taken her over.

Now sadly I do not know enough about the .hack universe but apparently I’ve ben told this one is really good showing off many locations from the anime and the original PlayStations games they stem from but what I do know is that the 3 oav do a very good job of holding the story together with just the right amount of Action, drama and storyline to keep anyone interested in it. Other than the simple fact of the characters in the real world are hard to figure who’s who initially it is an amazing oav with great potential to pull people into the .Hack universe, myself included. As it is however do not watch it with an avid fan if you don’t know .hack or the 9/10 I’m giving it will be squandered by their insistent chatter at all the locations they’ll be seeing.
